About YDHI
Young Democrats of Hawaii is an organization working to engage young people in the political process. Through outreach efforts, legislative proposals, and political action to support candidates in the upcoming elections, we hope to build the political strength of young voters and create a better Hawaii.
In the last two legislative sessions we have drafted bills on a variety of issues that are importnt to young people in Hawaii. Five bills drafted by the Young Democrats were introduced. Three have made it out of committees, but ultimately none were voted into law. Although we were ultimately unsuccesful in our first efforts at lobbying, we are busy preparing for the next session.
Membrship
Membership in the Young Democrats of Hawaii is open to all Democrats under the age of 35. There is no membership fee to join the Democratic Party of Hawaii or the Young Democrats.
Legislation
We are currently working to draft new bills for the 2009 session. In the coming months we will be holding focus groups to get input from our members and interested young people to decide how to proceed. Our efforts are broad based covering a range of issues:
- Cost of living, wages, and housing,
- Education and student loans,
- and Environmental protection
YDH is an officially recognized organization of the Democratic Party of Hawaii.
